The City of Johannesburg (CoJ) is offering Internship opportunities to suitably qualified and unemployed graduates. The Interships will run for a a period NOT exceeding eighteen (18) months. 

 

Interns will be required to sign an internship agreement, in additional to an employment contract, committing themselves to full participation in the educational and workplace assignments in accordance with laid-down policies and procedures.

 

Stipend: R10 109,86 pm (Basic Salary, no benefits)

Duration: 18 months contract

 


The following Internship Opportunities are open for applications: 

 

Internship: Food Value Chain

Department: Social Development

Reference No / Circular: 024/2025

Requirements: Diploma or Degree in Agriculture Studies / Development Studies or equivalent;

Duties: Food value chain cover many areas of agriculture value adding, food processing, quality and food safety. Assist farmers to transform from primary agricultural practice into processed material from primary agriculture to final value-added product. The official/s will assist in development of training, SABS (south African Bureau of standard) standard and HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) certification compliance. Implement activities that increase smallholder agricultural production and marker linkage. Identify and establish food / agricultural value chain opportunities within the City. Execute food value plans implementation plans that assist farmers with market. Coordinate and collaborate with local partners. Plan and support agricultural market days in the regions. Farmers / agro-processers.

Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of food security, agricultural production and project management. Knowledge of agricultural system to support emerging farmers. Knowledge of agricultural markets and market research skills.Marketing skills. Conflict management skills. Stakeholder mobilization. Research skills. Project management skills. Monitoring and evaluation.


Internship: Finance

Department: Social Development

Requirements: Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance or Financial Administration

Duties: To ensure that procurement is in line with Supply Chain practices and policies and is in adherence to the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA). Expenditure and Reporting to ensure accountability, confidentiality, control and transparency in the management of the General Ledger. Adherence to the MFMA and sound financial reporting. Communicating sound financial reporting. Office Administration management to ensure accountability, confidentiality, control and transparency in the management of the General Ledger. Document management. Monitoring of the Unit’s needs.

Skills and Competencies: Data Capturing and basic computer skills. Communication skills. Analytical skills. Ability to work independently and as a team. Accountability and able to maintain privacy and confidentiality. Knowledge of best accounting principles and practices. Computer literacy and Office Applications. Communication and organisational skills.


Internship: Youth Coordination

Department: Social Development

Requirements: Diploma or Degree in Social Sciences / Development Studies

Duties: Implement and facilitate Youth Development Programmes and administration of Youth Empowerment in order to ensure efficient and qualitative service delivery. Coordinate implementation of youth development programmes initiatives. Administer Youth Development Programmes. Provide administrative support in relation to the Unit and programme implementation. Liaise and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure integration in services for Youth as per the COJ policies and procedures.

Knowledge and Skills:  Ability to effectively work with the public and leaders in the community. Computer literacy (Microsoft Word and Excel). Community Development practices. Good Communication (verbal and written). Report writing and record keeping. Coordinating skills.


Internship: Trainee Investigator

Department: Office of the Ombudsman

Requirements: Diploma or Degree in Law or final year Law Student;

Duties: Support the Office of the Ombudsman in fulfilling its mandate to uphold transparency, fairness and integrity in municipal governance. Complaint intake and Initial assessment. Investigative support. Research and analysis. Documentation and reporting. Stakeholder engagement. Awareness and outreach. Quality assurance and compliance. Professional development.
